Micro-realism takes the language of realism to small tattoos, without giving up light, shadow and detail. It is one of the specialties of Leonardo Fonseca Ink Tattoo, a tattoo studio in the Renascença neighborhood of São Luís – MA, Brazil.
What micro-realism is
Instead of lines and outlines, the image is built with black & gray shading, just like traditional realism, only at a smaller scale. The challenge is choosing what to keep: in just a few centimeters, every detail has to be readable and every shade of gray has to serve a purpose.
Pet portraits, faces, meaningful objects and small scenes are frequent themes. The portfolio includes pieces such as Frank Sinatra, Air Jordan and the shih-tzu portraits.
Who it is for
It suits anyone who wants a discreet piece with the richness of a realistic tattoo. It is also a good choice for a first tattoo or for areas such as the forearm, ankle, ribs and inner arm. Images with many small elements may need a size adjustment to stay sharp over time, and we discuss this at the quote stage. If your idea needs more space, take a look at realism.
How the process works
Send your references, the placement and the size you have in mind on WhatsApp. Based on that, you get a quote within two business days. The design goes through three hand-drawn studies before the session and only goes onto the skin after your approval. The studio sees one client at a time.
Aftercare
With small, detailed pieces, healing makes an even bigger difference. Keep the area clean and moisturized, avoid sun, pools and the sea for the first weeks, and don't scratch the skin. Follow the instructions you receive at the studio and, once healed, use sunscreen to preserve the details.
How to book
The minimum price is R$ 300, including small pieces, and the date is reserved with a 15% deposit of the tattoo price (minimum R$ 100). Send your idea on WhatsApp +55 98 98914-7770 or check the frequently asked questions.
